Introduce self to the student because it is the first meeting of the business letter-writing class.
B. Reconstruction
- Giving the outline materials for each students
- Ask the students to read the outline materials first
C. Practice
- Explain about essential qualities in business letter-writing and the rules of good writing in letter
1. Essential qualities in business latter
The business letter is the principal means used by a business firm to keep in touch with its customers; often enough it is the only one and customers form their impression of the firm from the tone and quality of the letters it sends out Good-quality paper and an attractive letter-head play their part in this, but they are less important than the message they carry. Business does not call for the elegant language of the poet, but it does require us to express ourselves accurately in plain language that is clear and readily understood.
2. The rules of good writing
Study your reader’s interests, Adopt the right tone, Write naturally and sincerely, Write clearly and to the point, Be courteous and considerate, Avoid wordiness, Avoid commercial jargon, Write effectively, Avoid monotony, Plan your letter, Pay attention to first and last impressions, and Check your latter
